Clara Marcelli 2012 K’un

Marche, Marche

Red wine from Italy

Drinking window: 2017 – 2024

(100% Montepulcì&io): Full ruby. Aromas of raspberry, darli plum, smoky bacon fat and menthol, with complicating notes of sweet spices, cocoa and violet. Sweet savory and fine-grained offeríng very ripe flavors of dark berries, plum, tar and spices. This seamless blend finishes long, with soave tannins and excellent freshness.

Emanuele and Daniele Colletta farm 14 hectares of vineyards organically (out of a total of 35) at this small estate located roughly 850 to 900 feet above sea level. Perhaps not surprisingly given the cansulting work of Marco Casolanetti (of Oasi degli Angeli fame), I find this estate’s red wines more interesting than its whites. Even though the former wines are made in a very rich oaky style that is not usually to my liking they are remarkably suave and polished.
